The School of Information and Library Science (SILS) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill welcomed Heather Lewis as health informatics coordinator on June 20, 2011.
In her new position, Lewis will collaborate with instructors to schedule courses, collect up-to-date syllabi and communicate about course offerings. She will provide guidance to prospective and current students interested in pursuing academic tracks in the Health Informatics (HI) program, and track finances and generate status reports. Lewis will assist in marketing the HI program by disseminating information to appropriate audiences; handling queries and following up with literature; and assisting in maintaining the program Web site. She will also provide assistance in grant proposal development, aiming specifically toward the health care industry, trust funds and foundations as part of a broader fund-raising effort for the program.
"Heather brings a creative background to a job that requires adapting and learning very quickly," said Dr. Javed Mostafa, program director of the Carolina Health Informatics Program (CHIP) and jointly appointed professor at SILS and the Biomedical Research Imaging Center. "She has already demonstrated her effectiveness, and I'm looking forward to working with her as she assists us in growing the program."
Lewis comes to SILS from Coronado, California where she was a manager at Nado Life Group. She coordinated human resources activities including payroll distribution, maintaining employee files, benefits and W-2 withholdings; coordinated food orders and deliveries through the public school system; managed accounting and purchasing actions; handled project research on various subjects and items; provided effective customer service; and addressed a myriad of issues among other tasks.
She has a Master of Fine Arts degree in photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah, Georgia, an Associates in Arts degree in Photographic Imaging from the Art Institute of Atlanta, Atlanta, Georgia and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Metal Design from East Carolina University, Greenville, NC.
