Chelsea: Custom Visualizations of Wearables Data for Veterans with PTSD
Abstract: RTI International is studying the effects of exercise therapy intervention in veterans with PTSD by collecting data from wearable devices. The work produced by the digital health interns supplements the current data within the Center for Health Analytics, Media, and Policy Division (CHAMP division) and will assist the study team with their upcoming grant proposal. The objective is to increase funding and sample size for ongoing studies with the main goal of alleviating PTSD symptoms in veterans through exercise therapy intervention.

Daniel:

Title: Finding Lost Money: The Golden Road to Motivating Provider Change
Abstract: Healthcare systems are notoriously wasteful. Likewise, providers are notoriously entrenched in their ways. Giving providers clear, relevant messages can help facilitate successful change and reduce waste. Agathos, a tech startup, aims to deliver targeted messages to physicians that connect current guidelines to the physician’s practice patterns.

Deepthi:
1. ALVA10 - Healthcare Research Assistant
Title: Evaluating clinical and economic burden of breast cancer and drive precision in disease management
Abstract: Breast cancer is second most common cancer and the second most common cause of cancer death in the US. About 13% of women develop invasive breast cancer in a lifetime, and about 300,000 women die each year. Management of breast cancer poses a significant healthcare and economic burden, with each patient costing anywhere between $80,000 to $180,000 per year. Owing to the currently available range of clinical guidelines for screening, diagnostic, and treatment modalities, there is an urgent need to develop pathways to personalize breast cancer management, which in turn would help improve both patient and economic outcomes. This study is an evaluation of existing clinical practices in intersection with the upcoming diagnostic technologies and patient stratification methods to develop tools for ensure better outcomes.
2.  ENABLE - HiDAV and DataAware summer bootcamps - Instructor/Teaching assistant
Title: Didactic Data Science training and mentorship to undergraduate and high school students
Abstract: HiDAV and DataAware bootcamps are didactic Data Science bootcamps, where undergraduates from diverse backgrounds and high school students receive training in data science skills that include research methodologies, programming (R and Python), biostatistics, data analysis, data visualization, Machine Learning concepts, among others. In addition, students conducted mentored hand-on research end-to-end to present at the end of the program.
