2nd Bi-Annual Health IT Fair October 5

The second bi-annual Health Information Technology (IT) Fair took place on Friday, October 5, 2012 in the Pleasants Family Assembly Room of the Wilson Library on the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus.

Approximately 100 students, staff, faculty, professonals and others from the local community attended the fair to learn about the exciting field of health information technology. Those in attendance had an opportunity to meet and greet professionals from more than 24 national and local businesses and organizations and learn about current research and development. They were also treated to a special panel discussion by experts in the health IT field. The panel discussion featured representatives from bioMerieux, Epic, Carolinas Healthcare, Coastal Connect Health Information Exchange, Community Care of North Carolina, McKesson and Mosaic. The panel was moderated by Carolina Health Informatics Program (CHIP) director and professor at the School of Information and Library Science, Dr. Javed Mostafa.

The event was hosted by the UNC at Chapel Hill School of Information and Library Science, School of Nursing, School of Public Health and School of Medicine partners through the Carolina Health Informatics Program (CHIP).

The third health IT Fair is in the planning stages. It will take place Thursday January 31, 2013 in the Ram’s Head Recreation Center. The fair, which will be titled “Health Affairs Job and Internship Expo,” will be sponsored by Carolina Health Informatics (CHIP), Gilling’s School of Global Public Health and Allied Health.
