Mental Health in the Black Community

November 2, 2020 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

With the COVID-19 pandemic and the renewed interest in the #BlackLivesMatter movement, Black people have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic, both in disease risk as well as mental health struggles that many of all backgrounds have faced with the social isolation and other challenges. However, there is a great deal of stigma present in the Black community concerning mental health. Join Stigma-free Carolina as we have a candid discussion on mental health within the Black community.

Panelists include:

  • Xavier Bonner, Graduate Student, Biophysics, Founder of Society of Black Biomedical Scientists (SBBS)
  • April Highlander, Graduate Student, Psychology and Neuroscience
  • Henry Wills, Graduate Student, Psychology and Neuroscience
  • Charla Blumell, PhD, Assistant Director of Health Promotion and Prevention at Student Wellness
