Internship Presentations – MPS in Biomedical and Health Informatics Program

July 21, 2021 @ 6:00 am - 7:00 am

Students in the Professional Science Master’s in Biomedical and Health Informatics Program complete an internship that synthesizes knowledge gleaned from the program curriculum. The purpose of the internship is to expand classroom learning to include “hands-on” experience in health IT.

In this occasion Faria Ahmad will be presenting her internship project via Zoom.

Using the OEIS National Registry to Conduct Descriptive Analysis

Presenter: Faria Ahmad

Abstract: Clinical data registries are gaining increasing importance in the healthcare industry. These registries aim to evaluate outcomes for specific patient populations and use the aggregated information to improve outcomes for future patients. This is possible because registries acquire large data sets to analyze patterns or trends in treatment outcomes. One such facility that uses data registries is Pulse Vascular, an interventional radiology outpatient center in New Jersey that specializes in endovascular treatments for diseases such as Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD). My goal was to read through patient’s medical histories from Rexpert EHR and transcribe the pertinent information into a data registry specifically for interventional radiology. The resulting data was then used to compare health outcomes with other similar medical centers and to get a better understanding of what the typical patient at Pulse Vascular looks like. My presentation describes Peripheral Arterial Disease, the steps taken to input data into the OEIS national registry, and what the resulting data shows us.
