Carolina Innovations Seminar 2018 celebration of inventorship

May 3, 2018 @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm

This year the OCED Carolina Innovation seminars will be held entirely in the Great Room at Top of the Hill Restaurant & Brewery at the corner of Franklin and Columbia streets. The seminar runs from 5:30-6:30 p.m., followed immediately by a networking reception in the same space.

Our speaker for the 2018 Celebration of Inventorship will be this year’s Inventor of the Year, Dr. Mark Schoenfisch, UNC Department of Chemistry, who will discuss his research and his experiences with start-up companies.

Mark earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Kansas and his doctorate in chemistry from the University of Arizona. He has spent his career at UNC-Chapel Hill and is currently a professor of chemistry. Mark’s expertise spans chemistry, biomedical engineering and pharmaceutical sciences. Mark is a prolific inventor and has founded multiple companies, including Novan, Clinical Sensors, and Novoclem. He has 13 issued U.S. patents, 13 issued foreign patents and 22 pending patent applications. In addition to the National Science Foundation CAREER award, he has received numerous honors and awards for both research and teaching.

We will also be honoring our University inventors and celebrating their accomplishments by focusing on campus innovators who have had US patents issue during calendar 2017. We hope you will join OCED for this annual event, our community’s opportunity to recognize the wonderful work University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s faculty and researchers do.
