The RTI University Collaboration Office seeks a prospect for the GET PHIT (Gaining Equity in Training for Public Health Informatics and Technology) Internship within the Social, Statitiscal, and Environmental Sciences (SSES) unit.
This internship is a contract position. The employment contract is administered by HR Directions, RTI’s supplemental staffing partner.
RTI Rarity(TM) is an AI solution of RTI International: data science meets social risk adjustment. We are building a resource for researchers and policymakers to understand social determinants of health across 10 domains at the Census tract level. The data and composite measures we are curating are tools for health equity.
The GET PHIT intern will collaborate with RTI staff on several ongoing activities, including improving our GitHub repository, finalizing documentation, adding new measures and years, building a SQL database, working with databricks, merging Rarity with other data and models, exploring better automation and validation, and publications about the work.
Responsibilities
- Contributing to database creation and maintenance
- Analyzing and documenting workflows
- Researching, extracting, transforming, and loading new data and measures
- Drafting or revising portions of documentation and other written materials

Additional Information
This virtual paid internship will take place from May 2022 through August 2022. The internship requires a minimum commitment of 30 hours per week. Hours are flexible during business hours, Monday through Friday.
Required Qualifications
- Currently enrolled graduate student in public health/biomedical informatics or related field
- Demonstrated knowledge of or familiarity with quantitative research methodologies
- Experience with the following software or programming applications is required: - R, Office Suite
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Database (SQL) creation and maintenance
- GitHub, including pages
- Dashboard building in R
