Position: The Department of Health Policy and Management in the Gillings School of Global Public Health (SPH) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) is seeking outstanding applicants for a tenure-track / tenured, Assistant / Associate Professor in health informatics. The individual will contribute to the Carolina Health Informatics
Program (CHIP), a cross-campus health informatics research and education initiative.

The Department of Health Policy and Management is internationally top-ranked in research and
training with a dual focus: to train the next generation of leaders in management, policy making,
and research to address the complex challenges of health-care delivery and to produce cuttingedge
research to contribute to the improvement of health-related quality of life, domestically and
globally. In addition, there is a large and rapidly expanding group of researchers and scholars
engaged in interdisciplinary collaborations in health informatics that are members of CHIP
(chip.unc.edu). CHIP acts as a formal nexus for coordinating health informatics activities on
campus, including all of the UNC health science schools, and it offers numerous opportunities
for developing new research partnerships and for conducting graduate level teaching in health
informatics.

SPH faculty research programs benefit from multiple interdisciplinary centers, programs, and
databases, including the Sheps Center for Health Services Research, the Center for
Pharmacoepidemiology, the North Carolina Translational and Clinical Sciences Institute
(NCTraCS), the Clinical Studies Coordinating Center (CSCC), the UNC Lineberger
Comprehensive Cancer Center and its Integrated Cancer Information and Surveillance System
(ICISS), as well as the UNC Health Care electronic medical records data warehouse, and various
linked population based healthcare databases. Collaborations are also encouraged with other
research institutions such as the Research Triangle Institute (RTI), Duke, and NC State
University.

We anticipate that the successful candidate will be able to develop strong collaborations within
and beyond the SPH that link informatics and public health content areas. Such trans-disciplinary
partnerships and collaborations could include other departments and schools within UNC,
government organizations, and the private sector.
